Somerset Community Oil Scheme

Somerset Community Council has been involved in setting up buying schemes for heating oil. Details of the scheme can be found on the Community Council's website.

Somerset Community Oil Scheme - 'One Month On'

Dear Sir/Madam,
We are making contact with you to update you on the progress of the exciting new venture from the Community Council for Somerset (CCS) that could bring significant benefit to people in your community - the Somerset Community Oil Scheme!
If you haven’t heard about the scheme before, please see the attached introductory letter and promotional material.
We have now placed our first order with the resulting report:
The broker joined together the orders from Somerset with those of the original Oxfordshire scheme plus two other new schemes in Shropshire & the Isle of Wight. The total order was in excess of 160,000 litres. Throughout Friday (30th Sep) our broker was hard at work brokering the market, when it became clear that the price was expected to fall within the next few days. Our broker therefore waited until Monday (3rd Oct) and was able to secure a price that was 0.83 pence per litre (ppl), plus vat, lower than the price on the previous Friday. The prices he was able to obtain are as follows:
Market high = 61.95ppl (plus vat)
Market average = 57.5ppl (plus vat)
Member price = 53.97ppl (plus vat)
As you can see this is a saving of 3.53ppl (plus vat) from the average price on Monday: saving £35.30 on a 1000 litre order of kerosene.
If, in the event, a supplier from a single county, i.e. Somerset, can beat a price from a national one, then the Somerset order will be separated out to ensure all members get the best price. Please note, we can also take orders on Gas Oil. This has tighter margins and is generally always 10ppl more expensive, but savings can still be made.
