| Frank Bond Centre, January 2008 NewsletterAll members will be delighted to hear that the trustees have secured funding and support from the Age Concern Active Living programme, a government initiative, which gives us an opportunity to enhance and augment the events and activities currently available. These activities were identified from the questionnaires completed by members on the open day held earlier this year. The Active Living Programme is available to provide events and activities to promote physical, mental and social well being in the community particularly in respect of the older generation. We are fortunate that we have an already well established core to work from. In 2008 the following will be available at the FBC. Family History Group - This group meets on the first Monday afternoon of the month, 2 till 4pm, contact Bob Steed, bob.steed@virgin.net , if you are interested or come along. Film Afternoons - A large screen television and DVD player has been provided so that we can show favourite films. These will be held on the third Wednesday of the month starting on 23rd January 2008 showing South Pacific. Tai Chi - Due to space restriction at the centre, this takes place in the church hall, Bishop's Hull. The sessions are on Wednesdays from 1 pm till 2pm. There is a qualified instructor and there is a charge of £2.50 a session for members and £3.50 for non members. Computer Group - A new course run by an instructor from Bridgwater College who will bring laptop computers for all. The charge will be £39 per person for 12 sessions and there are spaces for 12 people. Put your name down for a space now, starting in April 2008. Add your name to the list in the foyer. Monthly Lunches - These will be held on the last Friday of the month beginning on 21st February 2008. Tickets will be available at the centre, price to include soft drinks. Should you want something stronger feel free to Bring Your Own. In addition there will be speakers for your enjoyment. Volunteers needed. We have all enjoyed the famous Fred's lunches which will continue and will be that month's lunch. Weekly Drop in Coffee Mornings - The existing monthly coffee mornings will continue but we will also start providing coffee and light breakfasts on a Friday from 1st February 2008 starting at 9 am. This will be open to all members of our community, an occasion to encourage a healthy mix of ages. Volunteers needed FUTURE PLANS Regular Visits from health professionals and alternative practitioners - We already have started part of this process with the nail clipping service, (telephone Rachel on 01278 785921 if you want to use this). Other services will be offered as and when available. To expand the range of outdoor activities to possibly include a boules court. To establish a "get to know your village" strolling group. Special events throughout the year - Watch the notice boards , Community News, Parish Magazine and the Bishop's Hull website. All these will be offered in addition to the extremely popular ongoing activities and events. These may be ambitious plans but with patience, co-operation and your support it should be possible for the FBC to become a place for companionship, information and activity to ensure all members have the opportunity to lead a happy, healthy and fulfilling life. May I remind you that membership fees of £10 are now due. All members with email addresses please write them on your envelope when renewing your membership. This will save us money on postage. For future communications. On behalf of all the trustees, I wish you a happy and healthy 2008. Marilyn Jorgensen |
