Parish Council Meeting November 2011 – The co-option of David Jorgensen was agreed. There is now one vacancy on the Council which will have to be filled by co-option in due course.
Meetings in future will start with ‘Have Your Say’, an opportunity for parishioners to bring to the Council’s notice any items of concern. You are urged to attend whenever you want to raise something – the Police are hoping to come along whenever they can.
Mountway Road Bus Gate – As no satisfactory response had been received about the broken bus gate it was agreed that the Chairman and Cllr Alan Paul would raise questions formally at the next full meeting of Somerset CC Extension of 30 mph speed limit to Upcott – A negative response had been received from SCC to the Council’s request for the 30 mph limit to be extended. The Clerk was asked to make further enquiries.
Village School – A reply had been received from SCC about the shortage of places for local children at the School. It was agreed to write to the local MP as the situation was unacceptable and several appeals were pending.
Community Woodland – Several matters were raised concerning benches, the removal of fallen trees and general maintenance matters.
Black top policy – A letter had been received from SCC saying that, in future, broken paving slabs would be replaced with tarmac, due to cost. The Council was invited to contribute if they wanted slabs to be used in the Conservation Area. It was agreed to reply saying that it was unclear what calls there would be on the Council’s funds at this stage, but that no work of that kind should proceed without the Council being consulted.
Section 106 Contributions – A meeting had been held with Debbie Arscott, TDBC, and a report written by Mr Hamer. The S106 contributions include an index linked sum of £186,120 towards the cost of community hall facilities in Bishops Hull and an index linked sum of up to £174,933 for sports facilities. Facilities provided through these funds should be open to everyone and be a focal point for activities for all age groups. Such facilities should also be vested in perpetuity in a public authority, body or trust. While TDBC will have the final decision, the Parish Council has an important part to play in asking local groups and residents how the Section 106 funds could best be used.
Bishops Hull Village Events Group In addition to acting as coordinators for any village events being planned for the Diamond Jubilee weekend, the VEG group would also welcome responses to their proposal for a 'Diamonds are Forever' jubilee celebratory dinner and dance the following weekend. Think black tie and cocktail dresses to conjure up an idea of what the night would be like. For a set ticket price the evening would involve food, drink, music and dancing until late. We would like as many villagers and their families and friends to join us for what we hope will be a fabulously fun evening. If you have any comments or would like to know more about any of our events feel free to contact Sue on sue.popplewell@yahoo.co.uk or 01823 354305.
Following the success of the Quiz which was held in November the VEG Group has organised another one for the 9th of March.
Frank Bond Centre There are a lot of activities taking place at the Frank Bond Centre. In fact there are too many for them all to be incorporated in this newsletter. So why not go along to Frank’s Café on a Friday and pick up a leaflet detailing all the activities. The membership year starts in January and the cost is £14, which is great value for what is available.
Frank’s Café every Friday 9 am – 11 am.
The Monthly Lunch is on the 19th of January
Bishops Hull Preschool The Bishops Hull Preschool Jumble Sale which was held in November was a great success raising £206. This will go towards the Preschool Christmas Party and new equipment for the Preschool. Hannah and Rachael would like to thank all those who attended on the day and for all the kind donations that were received.
From the Editors. We wish you all a happy Christmas and prosperity in the New Year. Remember that we are here to pass on information about what is going on in the village. We would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank our deliverers and our advertisers. Without them this newsletter could not be produced and distributed.
