Minutes of the Bishops Hull Local Action Team AGM 2009

Tuesday 20th October 7pm at the Robin Close Meeting Room

Present: Nick Mott, Dave Smith, Pete Yeandle, Rod Porter, PC Claire Griffiths, PCSO Simon Parry, Sue Tweddle, Alan Paul, Tom Catherall.

Apologies: Ken Burgess, Malcolm Summers, Nigel Stuart-Thorne, Chris Fry.

1. Welcome

Nick welcomed everyone to the second birthday of the Local Action Team especially Sue who was attending her first LAT meeting.

2. Minutes of the AGM held on Tuesday 21st October 2008

These were accepted without amendment.

4. Speedwatch

In addition to the report, Pete noted that the Speedwatch team had been out on other recent occasions. On 22nd September on Heron Drive - of 359 vehicles only 3 were exceeding the speed limit. On 7th October on Bishops Hull Road - of 299 vehicles monitored 28 had been exceeding the speed limit and again on 19th October when 21 were exceeding the limit.

Details of a recent Speedwatch were provided at the AGM.

Pete also noted a speed initiative in Aller were speed limit stickers had been placed on the sides of wheelie bins and a new VW transporter truck that had been converted to an educational road safety vehicle.

Pete and Dave would like more support for the speedwatch team, even if it is only for one hour a month.

It was noted the Speedwatch team were having a positive effect on curbing speeding in the village.

5. Report on LAT support for Youth Activities

Paintball - PC Griffiths reported that the Police, Fire Service and Taunton Deane Borough Council were involved in working towards restarting the paintball in 2010.

Energise - 'Shout' nightclub have produced an informative leaflet/flyer, the next event being held on 30th October, Haloween. An entry fee is charged.

Mountain biking - PCSO Parry reported that Halcon LAT, with the support of Stephen Foster, have purchased 18 mountain bikes for youth events. 15 young people and 2 or 3 supervisors are required for each event. The charge is £5 per person plus van hire of £50. Events take place on a Saturday. Volunteers must be CRB checked. The police can help explain this process if anyone is interested in volunteering.

PCSO Parry also noted that a volunteer has offered to start a 16-25 year olds football team in the village. An approach would have to be made to the Playing Field Committee to see if the field can be used on both a Saturday and a Sunday. Support from the Police and the Old Inn has been encouraging. Expectation would be to start in the season beginning August 2010.

Trident Youth and Community Centre - Pete reported that a grant of £19,000 had been obtained to update the Trident Hall in connection with 'Primary Colours'. This would include updating the kitchen, providing snooker, table tennis, sofas and carpet. The facility could also be rented out to other youth groups on other evenings during the week. The next PACT meeting was at 7.30pm on the 22nd October with the Parish Council.

PC Griffiths and PCSO Parry had been to the TA Centre in Mountway Road to give a presentation. PCSO Parry also reported a case of 'restorative justice' which had involved litter picking on the Playing Field.

11. Date of next meeting
