Minutes of Bishops Hull Local Action Team
Meeting Tuesday 8th June 2010, Robin Close Meeting Room 19.00
Present: Nick Mott (chairman), Dave Smith, Tom Catherall, Rod Porter, Ian Morrell, Nigel Stuart-Thorne.
Apologies: Simon Parry (PCSO), Chris Fry, Alan Paul and Malcolm Summers, Ken Burges, PC Claire Griffiths.
Nick welcomed everyone to the meeting.
The minutes were accepted without amendment.
Police supported youth activities:
Mountain biking had to be curtailed because of an unfortunate accident to Stephan Foster.
It was hoped to organise a Wii evening at the Old Inn.
It was hoped to organise a paintball event on 17th July.
Junior Youth group: Rod and Tom had met Jane Kilty about the under 12 Youth Group. Jane was concerned that a voluntary helper was finishing in September and she was concerned for the continuation of the group. She was looking for help from a paid youth worker. The junior youth group was hoping to meet twice in July and once in September.

Paintball;
Nick would write to Scott Weetch (Taunton Deane Borough Council) about the original funding of paintball.
Ian Morrell asked for details of LAT activities.
Details from the speedwatch for recent weeks;
Dave provided details and was also seeking more help with the Speedwatch.
Speedwatch had taken place in Bishops Hull on 21st (14 speeding out of 270 checked) and 26th (16 out of 287) May and the 3rd (5 out of 40) and 8th (25 out of 216) June. The highest recorded speed was 36mph.
Speedwatch would also be reporting seatbelt offences in future.
The Road Police Unit (RPU) are undertaking Operation Relentless, a summer initiative against drink and drug driving.
The annual re-calibration of the speed gun is due shortly and will cost £200. Trull Parish Council will be asked to cover half of this cost and Dave will also ask Chris Fry to see if he has any funding available.
The object of the Speedwatch is to deter inappropriate speed.

The main village event would take place on 12th June 2010.
Rod reported there had been an issue with the wrong date for the drinks licence and there would be no toilets.
Volunteers were sought to help put up tents on Saturday morning and take them down on Saturday night.
The Community Police Vehicle would be in the park from 4pm.
Details were given of a local charity that offers services such as gardening and home maintenance to those in their own homes who can no longer manage these activities.

It was reported that Simon had joined Dave for a speedwatch.
Also the police had been talking to local youths who may cause a nuisance during the hot weather.
There was a proposal to put grit bins at the top of Shutewater Hill.
The seat by the school was in a poor state (this problem may be solved by moving redundant seats from other areas of Bishops Hull).
A motorbike had been dumped in the woods.
The old United Reform Church near the post office is now in a derelict state.
The drop kerb had been put in in Shutewater Hill making movement easier for buggies.
The bus gate was out of action.
Road markings for a bus stop had been put in opposite the post office.
The ‘Welcome to Bishops Hull’ sign at Barr is missing.
Current balance is £674, including £450 from Cllr Alan Paul to help with funding for costs of projects such as mountain biking.
Fees are owed for the last meeting.
9.1 The LAT would give a present to Simon for his forthcoming wedding. Dave had organised this.
9.2 There had been a break in at the Old Inn and the landlord had been assaulted.
9.3 Rod had been to a meeting on Grant Funding at the Albemarle. Rod gave details.
9.4 Dave had an interview to become a Police volunteer.
The date of the next meeting was provisionally set for 13th July at 7pm.
