Minutes of Bishops Hull Local Action Team

Meeting Tuesday 09th March 2010, Robin Close Meeting Room 19.00

Present: Nick Mott (chairman), Dave Smith, Tom Catherall, Simon Parry (PCSO), PC Claire Griffiths, Ken Burgess.

Apologies: Jane Kilty, Brett Handsford (TA Centre), Rod Porter.

1. Welcome

Nick welcomed everyone to the meeting.

2. Minutes of the meeting held on Tuesday 26 January 2010

These minutes were agreed without amendment.

3. Youth Activities

Police supported youth activities: It was reported there was a new Headmistress at Castle School. PCSO Parry had not been in contact with her yet.

Junior Youth group: Dates booked for the 8-12 youth group are Friday 26th March and Friday 30th April. Help from the LAT and villagers would always be welcome. Contact the LAT secretary.

Support for 12- 16 Youth Group:

The secretary was asked to contact the Taunton Volunteer Bureau to see if they could provide a volunteer youth worker.

13 young people, Simon, another PCSO & Stephan had a cold and muddy mountain biking Saturday at Haldon, Devon (0900-1500). Another 5 dates throughout the year had been offered starting with 10th April.

The landlady at the Old Inn would be approached as there was interest in a film night there.

Other ideas included;

Quad biking at Collumpton, one to one training for 3 laps then 7.5 miles for £25 per person.

Crealy Park at Exeter, from 29th May, water rides and woodlands.

Archery at Bowmans Club at Courtfields in Wellington.

Diving, a try out session at St James St pool - starter session £15 per person for 2 hours.

Canoe Club - Ken and Simon to find out more.

Also for the young people to give some time to the village either doing a litter pick or helping the Village Events Group if they wanted help (contact James to see if they want help at the village event in June). Also not to forget an event at the TA centre (Simon to liaise with Brett).

Paintball

Hestercombe House offer paintball on a commercial basis 12 dates per year at £12 per head.

4. Speedwatch

Figures from the speedwatch for recent weeks;

28th January, Bishops Hull Road, 0800 - 0915, 277 vehicle movements, 53 exceeding the 20mph limit.

3rd February, Netherclay, 240 vehicle movements, 6 exceeding the speed limit.

Waterfield Drive, 0800-0900, 97 vehicle movements, none exceeding the speed limit.

24th February, Netherclay, 1530-1630, 57 vehicles, none speeding.

26th February, Bishops Hull Road, 0800-0915, 245 vehicles, 25 speeding.

4th March, Bishops Hull Road, 257 vehicles, 22 speeding.

4th March, Heron Drive, 1530-1630, 238 vehicles, 2 speeding.

Of all the vehicles caught speeding 3 were repeat offenders.

The object of the Speedwatch is to deter inappropriate speed.

5. Report of the Village Events Group (VEG)

The main village event would take place on 12th June 2010, 2-9pm.

After minute note; A fund raising quiz would take place on Friday 23rd April at the Community School at 7.30pm.

6. Police Report

Issues dealt with during the previous few weeks included;

Neighbourhood disputes.

Lead stolen from roofs in Norton Fitzwarren and Trull.

Vehicle crime (break in).

Speeding mopeds in Musgrove Road.

Parking problems opposite the Butchers/Post Office. 'H' bars would be introduced in this vicinity to discourage parking.

A new no cold calling zone had been established in Bakers Close.

7. Parish Council Report

7.1.The Parish Council were looking at 'section 106' funding options. These are options for funding resulting from development in Bishops Hull. They included a Community Hall or sports facilities.

7.2. Developers Persimmon would be holding an exhibition in the Community School Hall on Friday 12th March.

7.3. The subject of 'Grit Boxes' was discussed following recent inclement weather.

7.4. The footpath that had been eroded by the river at Roughmoor had now reopened on a new route.

8. Treasurer's Report

The treasurer had apologised for not being able to attend the meeting.

9. AOB

Nothing further was raised.

10. Date of next meeting

The date of the next meeting would be provisionally booked for 20th April.

After minute note:

Due to the room already being booked the date would be changed to 27th April.
