BISHOPS HULL AGM OCTOBER 2009 REPORT ON YOUTH ACTIVITIES

Paintball

Problems and disappointment have been the story of paintball during 2009. The site had to move and various administrative problems have meant no paintball has taken place.

As the LAT had invested £500 in the paintball scheme the LAT have vigorously pressed for further action.

Scott Weetch from the Taunton Deane Community Safety team hopes it will be revived on a new site in 2010.

Mountain Biking, Watersports & Fishing Trips

Initial grand ideas have, I am sorry to report again, never materialised. The original proposal was to go mountain biking on the Quantocks and on Haldon Hill. Nothing further developed for supporting the bmx track at Creechbarrow Road.

A bmx track had been supported on farm land at Bishops Lydeard by the PCSO there.

A cycle area had been established in Cotford St Luke.

The Bishops Hull LAT had hoped a similar facility could be built near the Park and Ride however potential expansion to the Park & Ride appeared to rule this out. Another alternative was a field behind Haydon Close.

However three cycling events had been held on Sundays at the Park and Ride during June and July.

The possibility of organising fishing trips was not followed up.

Watersports sessions organised by SW Lakes Trust will be followed up in 2010.

Energise Discos

These had been taking place monthly at Dellers nightclub and a summer event in Vivary Park.

Since Dellers has closed down they are being held at Shout nightclub. The LAT had found it hard to determine how many of the youth from Bishops Hull used this event.

Bishops Hull Youth Group (7-11 year olds)

The LAT has assisted with setting up and storing equipment for the Youth group on Friday evenings.

It is hoped to progress with a meeting of all parties to seek the services of a Youth Worker to help organise the Friday night Youth Club.

Funding

A number of funding sources had been located but these were aimed at supporting specific projects.

Territorial Army

A representative from the TA who had attended one of the meetings detailed TA youth activities that are organised from the Mountway Road facility.

It was suggested that the TA may like to host a satellite 'Energise' event.

Trident Youth and Community Centre

Plans have been outlined for a rebuild of the Trident Centre as a Youth and Community Centre for South and West Taunton with regular Youth Service involvement. The LAT will follow this with interest. The plan may take 3-5 years to come to fruition.
