Speed watch

The team consists of 7 members. This year we acquired three more sites as follows, Netherclay/Church area, Shutewater Hill and Silkmills Road. The site in Silkmill is mainly to monitor the average speed of traffic using this stretch, with a possibility of increasing the speed limit to 40mph. The first time a team went out on this site a vehicle count of 692 was recorded between the hours of 2pm - 3pm. There were a total of 28 vehicles exceeding the 30mph speed limit, one of which was doing 44mph.

The team go out at least once per month sometimes more. B. Hull road is the main area for speeding motorists, an average of 32 motorists are caught speeding from a vehicle movement of approx 300 in the space of an hour, mainly during 8am - 9am. Each time a team goes out.

This year we acquired our own speed gun, with help from Taunton Deane, Mr Alan Paul (Local Councillor) and a donation of £250 from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. This unit has allowed us to go out more frequently. One of our members (Mr David Smith) is currently helping Trull set up their speed watch team, they don't yet have their own gun.

As Last year we are still looking for more volunteers. They would be Police trained. So if there are any people over the age of 18 who could spare just 1 hour per month. Please let me know.
